I love bagels. Okay, let’s not categorize- I love bread. And stuff to spread on bread. I don’t live too close to any bakeries, including Panera, which is a good thing. Because that would be dangerous for my bottom line, so to speak. The closest Paneras to me are about 10 miles away. Whew!
But when I have the chance I love to stop in for a bagel with their honey walnut spread. Gotta have the spread! And judging by all the copycat spread recipes floating around on the internet, I’m not the only one. Sometimes I just crave it for my grocery store bagels. When I know I’m not gonna see a Panera anytime soon I turn to the next best thing: homemade.
It’s easy-peasy and comes together in about 5 minutes-including the nut chopping. Put it on your favorite bagel (or toast, biscuits, naan). Or just put it on a spoon and into your mouth. No judging.
Honey Walnut Cream Cheese Spread
- 8 oz. reduced-fat cream cheese, room temperature
- 2 Tbs. honey
- 1 ½ Tbs. dark brown sugar (you can use light brown- I just think dark brown adds a little depth of flavor)
- 2 oz. chopped walnuts
- Step 1 Mix together cream cheese, honey and brown sugar with an electric mixer until completely combined, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in walnuts.
- Step 2 Keep refrigerated.
